I am riding a BMW R1200GS Adventurer anti-clockwise around Oz. This is my first long distance trip (more than a week away) and quite a challenge for me mentally, physically & emotionally.
I rode a motorbike as a teenager and then didn't ride again for almost 40 years. In September 2007 I jumped back on a bike. After numerous week long trips away I just loved the riding and the Australian country side. Simply a magical way of experiencing our beautiful country.
So this year I decided to take on this adventure. Robyn wasn't all that impressed but came to understand my desire. My daughter Kelly, asked me what has taken so long - she said that I have always spoken about doing such a ride.
Now I had to fit the trip in between a number of commitments. Both Robyn & I turn 60 this year (June & November) and we have our 40th wedding anniversary in October. So I had a window of opportunity.
I decided to head north in July and then west - hopefully experiencing the northern winter (and dry season) whilst heading south in Spring. I'm expecting to be home by late October.
So I hope that this blog gives you a little of what I am experiencing and I appreciate any comments or feedback. So keep in touch.
